The weekend of the St. Jude Marathon has begun. Numerous traffic closures in the Midtown and Downtown areas of Memphis began on Friday.
For more than 20 years, the marathon has been a main source of funding for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The organizers aim to raise $16 million this year.
The race course passes through downtown, winds through Midtown at Overton Park, and finishes at AutoZone Park.
The half-marathon follows a similar course, with the exception that participants will make a detour through North Parkway.
Most routes will be closed early on Saturday morning. It is expected that many roads would reopen between 2 and 3 p.m.
