MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Wolf River Conservancy and Ducks Unlimited announced they have purchased 768 acres of wetland east of Collierville for wildlife habitat conservation.
The property connects two larger protected properties, forming 5,800 acres of contiguous protected land, including 14 miles of the Wolf River.
It lies in the recharge zone of the Memphis Sand Aquifer, which means it also protects the area’s groundwater source.
The Wolf River Conservancy said the property’s owners reached out to them about a possible sale earlier this fall, after the owners received an offer from a timber company. WRC and Ducks Unlimited made a multimillion-dollar offer to buy the property in just a few days.
