Online documents indicate that Marie Feagins, the former superintendent of Memphis Shelby County Schools, is preparing to run for mayor of Shelby County, even though the election is still months away.
On October 31, Friends of Marie Feagins submitted a paperwork to the Tennessee Bureau of Ethics and Campaign Finance appointing a political treasurer for Feagins’ county mayoral campaign.
After just a few months at her previous job, Feagins was removed as superintendent by the MSCS board in January, despite the backing of certain local officials and parents.
The Shelby County Election Commission states that the formal filing date for the county elections in 2026 is not until December 22.
