Colin Burress has been formally confirmed by the Memphis City Council as the Memphis Fire Department’s new fire chief.
Council members officially confirmed Chief Burress on Tuesday. He was joined by Mayor Paul Young, who nominated him last week following the retirement of Chief Gina Sweat.
Having been with the department for almost thirty years, Chief Burress most recently held the position of Assistant Fire Chief of Operations.
He said “I look forward to working with each of you to provide our citizens with vigilance, with a fire department that serves with heart and stands ready for what lies ahead. Thank you.”
