According to court documents, Sanjeev Kumar, a gynecologist in Memphis, is now facing 46 charges in a new indictment against him for allegedly engaging in healthcare fraud, forcing individuals to engage in sexual acts, and reusing single-use devices on patients.
Court documents state that Kumar is charged with healthcare fraud, adulteration of single-use devices, misbranding of reprocessed single-use devices, and adulteration of hysteroscopes that have been cleared for reprocessing.
Last month, a judge dismissed 17 counts against Kumar on 36 federal charges, but upheld the other charges.
Kumar could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, and at least five years of supervised release if found guilty.
On Tuesday at 9 a.m., he is scheduled to appear in court.
