Due to the federal government shutdown, Governor Bill Lee has advised SNAP recipients to anticipate a lapse in benefits on November 1.
About 700,000 people in Tennessee, including 152,000 in Shelby County, depend on the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program for their food needs.
The federal government provides funding for the program, which is run by the state.
“Congress has a responsibility to fund the federal government, and while Democrats continue to hold federal dollars hostage, my administration is working with members of the faith community and nonprofit partners to ensure Tennessee families do not go hungry.”
