On Wednesday, new details regarding Memphis-Shelby County Schools’ (MSCS) plan to eliminate five of its schools were made public.
Closing Chickasaw Middle School and transferring students to Westwood High is a part of the concept,creating a new 6th–12th grade school.
Frayser Corning Elementary would close, and its students would move into Whitney and Westside elementaries.
Georgian Hills would shut down, moving some students to Whitney and Hawkins Elementary.
Additionally, the district intends to establish a new K–8 school by moving kids from Lucy Elementary to Woodstock Middle School and closing Lucy Elementary early.
In February, a final decision on the plan will be made.
