Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 37 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a season-opening 133-120 victory over the visiting Washington Wizards on Wednesday night.
Gary Trent Jr. added 17 on five 3-pointers. Kyle Kuzma scored 12 off the bench and Myles Turner scored 11, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots in his Bucks debut.
In his return to Milwaukee, Khris Middleton led Washington with 23 points. Kyshawn George added 21 with nine rebounds and Tre Johnson scored 16 in his first professional game.
The Bucks came out firing, making nine of their first 11 shots. They shot 8-for-13 from deep in the opening quarter and went into the second up 40-23.
The second quarter evened out, with the Bucks winning the quarter 32-30. Johnson scored nine points on three 3-point attempts for the Wizards as they trailed 72-53 at the break.
Antetokounmpo led all scorers with 13 at the half. Kevin Porter Jr. scored 10 before leaving with a left ankle sprain and not returning. Johnson led Washington with 11 at the break.
The third quarter belonged to Washington. The Wizards began the quarter on a 12-0 run to cut their deficit to seven and entered the fourth trailing 101-90.
In the fourth, Washington continued to hang around as Corey Kispert knocked down three 3-pointers at the start of the quarter.
Midway through the quarter, Antetokounmpo scored 10 straight points to put Milwaukee up by 18. He capped off his run with his first 3-pointer of the night.
Milwaukee has won four straight over Washington after sweeping the three-game season set last season.
