A federal court threw out almost half of the charges against the Memphis gynecologist who was accused of performing unnecessary procedures on his patients and reusing medical equipment.
17 of the 36 federal charges against Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, which included healthcare fraud, illicit sex acts, and device adulteration, haveĀ been dropped.
The ruling in U.S. District Court came down Friday.
Five counts of adulterating single-use medical devices, five counts of misbranding reprocessed single-use devices, one count of adulterating hysteroscopes cleared for reprocessing, and four counts of enticement and inducement to travel in order to engage in illegal sex acts are among the charges that were dropped.
The trial of Kumar is scheduled for December 1.
