On Monday, the district attorney for DeSoto County filed a motion to resentence a former youth minister who had been found guilty of sexually abusing a juvenile.
District Attorney Matthew Barton submitted a motion on Thursday asking the Circuit Court of DeSoto County, Mississippi, to modify Lindsey Whiteside’s sentence after she entered a guilty plea to the charge of sexual battery.
In December 2024, Whiteside, a former basketball coach at DeSoto Central High School in Southaven, Mississippi, and a former youth preacher at Getwell Church in Hernando, Mississippi, was charged with one count of minor sexual battery.
She was sentenced to ten years under court supervision with no contact with the victim or her family by retired Circuit Judge Andrew Howorth.
