On Tuesday, Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris accused the Memphis Safe Task Force with racial profiling and illegal stops.
The Memphis Safe Task Force has been making arrests for three weeks now, and Harris conducted a media conference to address the rising concerns of the Memphis Hispanic community regarding the task force.
He stated that regardless of their immigration status, people of the Hispanic community are being targeted. According to Mayor Harris, the National Guard’s presence discourages their day-to-day activity rather than preventing crime.
