Google officially broke ground on its new multibillion-dollar data center in West Memphis on Thursday.
Alongside state and local political leaders, including Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders of Arkansas, Ruth Porat, the president and chief investment officer of Alphabet and Google, made the formal announcement.
According to Porat, Google plans to invest $4 billion in Arkansas until 2027. The company’s first investment in the state, the West Memphis data center will create hundreds of jobs. It is the largest investment in state history.
