Tennessee is tightening restrictions on able-bodied adults who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance, also known as food stamps.
Under a new federal law that changes who is eligible for SNAP food assistance, the emphasis has shifted to finding employment.
By the end of October, you must certify that you are exempt from the new restrictions, or you will be subject to them.
If you are an able-bodied adult with no dependents aged 18 to 65, no disability, and no children under the age of 14, you must follow certain job restrictions to be eligible for SNAP.
The guidelines require you to work, volunteer, or enroll in a job training program for at least 20 hours per week. If you don’t do any of those, you will only get SNAP benefits for three months in any three-year period.
