Next year, all board members of Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) will be running for reelection.
This comes after a resolution combining the school board elections with the commission’s, and all approved by the Shelby County Commission on Monday.
At first, half of the school board was up for election every two years, making elections staggered. Now it will all be every four years.
School board members will also have term limits, like commissioners. The state legislature established a bill to do this earlier this year, following the school board’s decision to remove Superintendent Dr. Marie Feagins.
