Due to uncertainties surrounding a state law that prohibits diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in public schools and is currently on hold by a federal judge, some Mississippi universities have ceased funding student organizations for club activities.
Registered student organizations are exempt from the regulation, which forbids any curriculum or programming pertaining to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Money received from student activity fees is not, however, excluded from the ban.
Departments like the Office of Student Affairs and the Department of Campus Recreation will use the money from “Student Activity Fees” to plan events rather than giving them to campus organizations.
