A new trial has been granted to three former Memphis Police officers who were found guilty on a federal charge in connection with Tyre Nichols’ death.
Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, and Justin Smith will all face federal charges in connection with Nichols’ killing. The new trial was granted on Thursday by Judge Sheryl L. Lipman.
At a state trial concerning Tyre Nichols’ death, all three were found not guilty of any charges. In connection with Tyre Nichols’ killing, two additional policemen, Desmond Mills and Emmitt Martin, entered guilty pleas to federal charges.
Prosecutors have until Sept. 15 to file their positions on which charges will be retried.
