After being charged this week with a number of felonies, including stealing, computer crimes, and money laundering, DeAndre Brown, the head of Shelby County’s Office of Reentry, was taken into custody on Wednesday.
Brown and his wife, Vinessa Brown were both charged with embezzling at least $625K from Lifeline to Success, a nonprofit organization in Memphis that offers re-entry programs to former offenders.
In December 2023, Governor Bill Lee pardoned Deandre Brown for previous crimes in the state, which he stated represented a second opportunity.
Brown is currently dealing with significant new legal issues. A judge in Shelby County issued two bonds for him on Wednesday: one for $1 million and another for $100,000.
