TIGERS | New York Mets Select UofM Baseball Player From Mississippi

In the MLB Draft, a baseball player from the University of Memphis was selected to play in New York City.

In the 14th round of the 2025 MLB Draft, the New York Mets selected James Smith IV, a right-handed pitcher and outfielder from the University of Memphis with the 433rd overall pick. 

Smith played collegiate baseball at Ole Miss and Northwest Mississippi Community College before joining Memphis for one season.

During his one season in Memphis, the Olive Branch native participated in 29 games for the Tigers.
