Mississippi will implement a higher gas tax at the pump starting July 1. During the 2025 Legislative Session, lawmakers enacted House Bill 1, which includes the tax. The state income tax will be phased out under the new law.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation will receive funds from the gas tax hike to upgrade the state’s infrastructure.
The gas tax will increase by $0.03 cents per gallon over three years starting on July 1.
The increase would provide MDOT with an extra $200 million for bridge and road repairs.
