According to Arkansas State Police, Christopher Franklin, the mayor of Helena-West Helena, was taken into custody on Tuesday for not filing his taxes.
This afternoon, a video that seemed to show Arkansas troopers handcuffing Mayor Franklin started to circulate on Facebook.
According to ASP, a Special Investigations Unit investigation led to Franklin being charged with four counts of Failure to Pay or File a Tax Return, a Class D felony.
Todd Murray, the prosecutor for the 1st Judicial District, requested that ASP look into Franklin in June 2024.
The inquiry found that Franklin had not submitted taxes for four of the previous five years.
