On Sunday night, a riot broke out at the largest correctional facility in Tennessee which carried over into Monday morning.
After gaining access to an inner yard, a significant number of prisoners at the Trousdale Turner Correctional Center in Hartsville escaped their cells and were disorderly and aggressive.
The spokesperson claimed that the inmates tried to damage facility property, posing a risk to public safety. They broke into security cameras, started small fires, and violated staff orders.
Three guards were held hostage and all got out safely with no major injuries.
75 Tennessee state troopers were sent to assist after an officer was assaulted and suffered minor injuries. The inmates were secured by 1a.m on Monday.
The facility is on lockdown until further notice
