LOCAL | Thousands Of Residents Without Power In The Mid-South, DeSoto County Declared State Of Emergency

Severe thunderstorms ripped over Mississippi and Tennessee overnight, leaving thousands of residents in the Mid-South to wake up in the dark on Monday morning.

More than 7,700 people were without power in DeSoto County, Mississippi, which saw the most damage, according to Entergy.

More than 7000 residents in the area were still without electricity on Monday morning.

DeSoto County declared a state of emergency as a result of the inclement weather.

Chip Johnson, the mayor of Hernando, said it may take several days to restore electricity to families in need while emergency workers and city crews attempt to determine the extent of the damage.
