LOCAL | Documents Reveal Former MATA CEO’s International Trips Paid For By Taxpayers

According to new documents from our news partner, WREG, it showed the previous CEO of the Memphis Area Transit Authority traveled abroad on taxpayer funds on several occasions.

Gary Rosenfeld, the former CEO of MATA, detailed his overseas travels in hundreds of pages of expense reports, the taxpayers, paid for.

Among the countries he went to were China, India, Greece, and France. Among those trips included charges for airfare, hotels, restaurants, and other daily expenses.

The most recent set of MATA documents acquired under the Tennessee Records Act also contains the expenditure reports of MATA interim CEO Bacarra Mauldin.

Between 2021 and 2024, she reported spending over $20,000. Her records cover a number of dinners, domestic trips, and conferences, including two sorority conventions.
