The Memphis-Shelby County School Board members whose tenure might be shortened by half next year may be chosen by the Shelby County Commission.
The Shelby County Commission will have the power to set term limits for Memphis Shelby County School Board members under a new law that Tennessee lawmakers enacted.
All nine MSCS seats, including those recently elected school board members, would be on a 2026 ballot if the commissioners choose to align the elections with the county ballot.
Natalie McKinney, Stephanie Love, Tamarques Porter, Sable Otey, and Towanna Murphy are the five MSCS board members who were elected in 2024 and whose mandates might be shortened by half.
