Following a gunshot in a Memphis city park on Thursday that left a teenage girl seriously injured, authorities said a 16-year-old boy was taken into custody and charged with attempted first-degree murder.

According to Memphis Police (MPD), an argument between girls at Willow Park, close to Overton High School, was the origin of the shooting.

One of the girls and a teenage boy got into an SUV after the fight. That’s when the boy leaned out of the car and fired shots at the other girl, striking her as they drove away.

According to MPD, the boy was taken into custody without incident on Knightway Road. Additionally, he was charged of carrying a firearm while committing a violent felony.
