Jackson Hopper of Tiptonville, Tennessee is currently being held at 201 Poplar facing a first degree murder charge. Sources report that he allegedly fired multiple shots at Ellie Young in the parking lot of the visitors center at Shelby Farms Park on Saturday. A breast cancer awareness walk/run had been held earlier in the day, however Young was not believed to be a participant.
The affidavit reports that she arrived just after noon in a Jeep Wrangler and was being followed by Jackson Hopper in a Honda CRV with a temporary tag issued in Kentucky. Upon parking, Hopper allegedly fired multiple shots at her when she got out of the Jeep and then fired one more while she lay on the ground. EMT’s pronounced Ellie Young dead at 12:36.
Thanks to pictures of the Honda from a witness and cameras installed around Shelby Farms Park, authorities were able to identify more info about the Honda. Shelby County Sherriff put out an alert and Hopper gave chase through several counties ultimately ending in Dyer County.
Arrangement proceedings scheduled for Hopper Monday at 9am.
