LOCAL | Attempted Airport Carjacking Leaves One Rideshare Driver Shot

Airport officials reported that a rideshare driver was shot during an attempted carjacking at Memphis International Airport on Monday.

The Memphis Airport Police were called to a shooting in the cell phone lot at Jim McGhee Parkway and Winchester just after midnight.

A witness claimed that four men in masks approached the driver. They were traveling in a white or gray automobile.

They brought the driver to Regional One and there has been no word on his current condition.

Afterwards, the airport released a statement addressing the situation.

“This appears to be an isolated incident and the investigation by MAPD and the Memphis Police Department is ongoing,” They said. “The safety of our employees, passengers and vendors is our top priority.”
