LOCAL | Shelby County Clerk Wanda Halbert Files Motion To Dismiss Removal Petition

A motion to dismiss the court petition to remove Shelby County Clerk Wanda Halbert has been filed by her legal team.

Her initial response to the petition was that she had no plans to resign from her position as clerk and even said her office never got the forensic audit she asked for.

This all comes after the petition to remove Halbert that was filed by the State of Tennessee following criticism of her job performance.

It was filed last week by Hamilton County District Attorney Coty Wamp who was given the responsibility to assess Halbert.

In another public response to the petition, she posted on her Facebook page that they will not disclose details until the law requires her to do so.

“The Office of the Shelby County Clerk over the last 5+ years has repeatedly ‘sounded the alarm’ regarding a host of findings/concerns,” her post read. “Said concerns have been documented and reported to multiple legal County & State entities but never investigated. Fortunately, the day has come that FINALLY begins direct attention to the matters we have raised.”

Halbert is scheduled to make an appearance at the Shelby County Commission meeting to share her proposal for corrective action on Wednesday.
