LOCAL | Beale Street Shooter Now Faces First-Degree Murder Charges

The fatal shooting of Damein Hawkins on Beale Street last month has led to the arrest of the alleged shooter, Quavarre Rogers, who now faces a first-degree murder charge.

Rogers was initially charged with second-degree murder after he shot a man outside Jerry Lee Lewis’ Cafe on March 17.

The shooting stemmed from an argument between the two, gradually escalating which resulted in Rogers shooting Hawkins to death early that Sunday morning.

Police officials have confirmed that the charges have been upgraded to first-degree murder, leading to the warrant and arrest of Rogers on Tuesday in Olive Branch.

This comes after his second-degree murder charge getting dropped from “lack of prosecution”.

As Tuesday’s press release read: “The District Attorney’s Office promptly escalated the matter, presenting it to a grand jury on April 11. This swift action led to Rogers’ indictment, and a warrant for arrest issued the next day.”

As it stands, his extradition from Mississippi is undergoing and his bond has been set at $1 million.
