LOCAL | MPD To Recieve $1.9 Million From Federal Government For Equipment Upgrades

The Federal Government will be sending $1.9 million to the Memphis Police Department in an effort to improve equipment on officers in the line of duty.

Half of the money will go towards surveillance cameras that are an improvement from the previous ones as part of the Sentinel Surveillance Cameras Project.

The other half, the Officer Equipment Improvement Project, will be funding better equipment intended for the officers’ safety.

Funding was pushed for and confirmed in Congress by Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Memphis).
