Elwood’s Shack on Park Avenue was were a person decided to leave a cat in the middle of the night during last week’s freeze. Video shows a dark colored car stop in the parking lot. open the drivers side door and set a pet carrier in the middle of the parking lot and then drive off. In the carrier was a cat, with no way to get out, sitting in the freezing ice and snow at 12:30am.
Friday morning, Rustina Koenig was arriving to work and found the pet carrier sitting in the doorway of Elwood’s Shack with the cat laying in a blanket. It was later found out that a couple discovered the cart sitting in the parking and moved it to the front door of the restaurant.
Rusti Koenig told WREG, “We brought it inside, mashed up the can of food that they left for it, and he started eating. We just kept him looking at the fish tank all day until I could get out of here and go to the vet.”
A veterinarian told Koenig the cat was about a year old and had a neurological disorder but should live a long and healthy life. Koenig doesn’t know if that’s why the cat was dumped but plans to give him a forever home.
“My animal-loving heart can’t make rhyme or reason out of any of it. You know, none of it makes sense to me because I would live in my car with my animals before I would just abandon them,” she said.
