REAL ESTATE | “It was one of the worst deeds I’ve ever seen” – Matt McDonald

Matt McDonald of Virtue Closing Services says that quit-claim deeds can be a tool for those attempting to steal a home.  Typically it’s someone like a family friend or neighbor who knows the circumstances of the vacant property. In a recent case in Memphis, it’s alleged by the son of a home owner that a neighbor knew the owner was out of state in hospice care and he committed theft and fraud by writing his own “quit-claim deed” to transfer ownership of the women’s home to himself. The owner’s son, who has power of attorney, says his mother did not transfer the home. The story, heard on Memphis Morning News spoke with closing attorney Matt McDonald. Matt gave some simple things you can do to protect your property from theft attempts like this, and it’s of zero cost to you.
